Plan Your Night

Doors open half an hour early. Give Salem the rest of the hour.

We are at Cinema Salem, One East India Square, on the Essex Street pedestrian mall in Salem. Here is how to get to us with time to spare.

Where

Cinema Salem

One East India Square
Salem, MA 01970

Cinema Salem is inside Museum Place, the small mall whose doors open straight onto the Essex Street pedestrian mall. When you are standing on Essex Street in October, in the middle of the crowd, you are about a minute from our door.

When

Three performances

Doors open thirty minutes before the performance. Have your ticket and your ID ready at the door. If you arrive after the first chapter has started we will seat you when there is a natural break, so give yourself the extra half hour that Salem always asks for in October.

Getting here

In October, the train wins.

The city recommends it, and so does anyone who has tried to park near Essex Street on a Saturday in October.

  • Train

The Newburyport/Rockport commuter rail line runs from Boston's North Station to Salem in about half an hour, and the station is about a ten-minute walk from our door. In October the city itself recommends the train over driving, and so do we.

  • Ferry

The Salem Ferry runs between Boston's Long Wharf and Blaney Street in Salem through the fall. It is the prettiest way in. Check the schedule for evening return sailings before you rely on it for the way home.

  • Parking

The Museum Place Garage on New Liberty Street is attached to our building. The MBTA station garage on Bridge Street and the South Harbor Garage are the fallbacks. On October weekends every one of them is full by early afternoon, which is one more reason the 8 PM performances are the easy ones.

  • Walking

Downtown Salem closes to cars on the busiest October weekends. Once you are parked or off the train, everything is on foot, and we are in the middle of it on Essex Street.

Bring your ID

Every guest is 21 or older and shows a valid government-issued photo ID at the door. That is true at the matinee too.

Bring your ticket

Your tickets are in the confirmation email from Eventbrite and in the Eventbrite app. Each one has its own QR code; show it on your screen or print it. If you cannot find them, start here.

What to wear

Come as you are. Plenty of people dress for the occasion, and you would not be out of place in black.

Access

Tell us what you need.

Tell us what you need when you reserve, or send us a note through the question form, and we will have it ready before you arrive. Mocktails, seating needs, anything about the room: there is a line for it on the reservation form and on the question form.

Before and after

You are already downtown.

Essex Street and Derby Square are lined with restaurants, so eat before the 8 PM performances; the four cocktails are the menu inside. Afterwards the street is still awake, and you are already in the middle of it.
